Why it works

Sunscreen and daily grime are largely oil-soluble, which is why water and foam alone can struggle to remove them and often over-wash the skin in the process.

Isntree Yam Root Vegan Milk Cleanser works on the "like dissolves like" principle — meaning oil-based cleansers remove oil-based products far more easily.

Applied to dry skin, its plant seed oils grab onto oil-based sunscreen and dirt; add a little water, and it emulsifies into a milk that rinses clean. Applying it to dry skin first is the key to using it well.

Instead of harsh sulfates, it uses a vegan milk complex (rice, coconut, soy, oat and almond), whose plant fats cushion the wash and leave a light, comfortable film rather than a stripped feel.

The main ingredient is a high concentration of Andong yam root extract, rich in amino acids and with a naturally slippery, moisture-binding texture — plant-derived ingredients that mimic the slip and hydration of mucin, without any animal origin.

Sunflower seed oil adds linoleic acid, which helps support the skin barrier. The result is a cleanse that leaves skin soft and calm rather than tight. Results vary by person and skin type.

How to use it

Pour into your existing pump bottle. Pump 2–3 dispenses onto dry (or lightly damp) skin and massage gently in circular motions to dissolve sunscreen and grime. Add a little lukewarm water to emulsify it into a milk, then rinse clean or wipe away with a damp cloth. Use morning or night as a gentle standalone wash, or as the first step of a double cleanse before a foaming wash.

Skin type compatibility

• Dry, sensitive & compromised skin: soft, nourishing cleanse for skin that ordinary foams leave tight or reactive.
• Acne-prone but dehydrated skin: the comedogenic-0 sunflower oil makes it a gentle option.
• Prefer a foaming lather? The Round Lab Dokdo or AESTURA foam cleansers are better suited.
• Heavy or waterproof makeup: use this (or a balm) as your first cleanse, then follow with a wash.

Common questions

Does it leave a greasy residue?
No — despite being very moisturising, it rinses clean with lukewarm water, with no heavy or waxy film.

Can it remove waterproof makeup?
It easily removes daily impurities and non-waterproof SPF. For heavy or waterproof makeup, use it as your first cleanse and follow with a wash.

Will it clog my pores?
It uses refined sunflower oil (comedogenic rating 0), so it's a gentle option for acne-prone skin that's also dehydrated.
